Hispanic Business Magazine Names Verizon Executive Cristina Lambert to Top Five of Elite Women List

President of Puerto Rico Telephone Makes List of 25 Elite Women
                          in Magazine's April Issue

NEW YORK, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Cristina Lambert, president and CEO of
Puerto Rico Telephone (PRT), was named one of the top five women in Hispanic
Business Magazine's list of 25 Elite Women. Verizon owns 52 percent of PRT,
the largest provider of telecommunications services in Puerto Rico.
The list appears in the April issue, which includes an in-depth profile of
Lambert, a 30-year telecommunications industry veteran. Hispanic Business
Magazine noted the 25 Elite Women list recognizes "the nation's most
accomplished Hispanic women in the corporate and entrepreneurial arenas for
their professional achievements, wide-ranging influence, and service to the
country's Hispanic community."
Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg said, "This is a well-deserved honor. Cris is
a gifted and dedicated leader who has achieved success by working hard and
staying focused. We are fortunate to have her on our team."
Lambert, who joined PRT in 1999, was named president and CEO last
November. She began her telecommunications career in 1974 with Contel, which
merged with GTE in 1991. GTE and Bell Atlantic merged to form Verizon in
2000.
In its profile of Lambert, Hispanic Business Magazine said she "knows the
telecommunications business from the bottom up." Lambert began her career as
a cashier and worked her way up the ranks, learning each aspect of the
telecommunications industry first-hand.
Lambert was born in Panama and earned a B.A. degree from Indiana
University and an M.B.A. from Indiana Wesleyan University.
Verizon last year was named best company to work for in Latina Style
magazine's annual listing of the 50 top companies for Hispanic women.
Lambert, Verizon's highest-ranking Hispanic woman, accepted the award on
behalf of the company.
